Exploitable results – Determination of the hydrological variability and changes in the Cretan Sea from the combined datasets of Argo floats, mooring stations and R/V (research vessel) measurements.
Result descriptionThe hydrology of the Cretan Sea is studied by using T/S (temperature salinity) profile data derived from the first Argo float deployed in the area over a 2 year period (2010-2012) which was combined with time series data recorded from the POSEIDON E1-M3A multi-parametric instrumentation platform. The acquired datasets were enriched with available CTD (conductivity, temperature, depth) profiles taken on the mooring site during cruise maintenance surveys. The combined research activities resulted in a large dataset of physical properties allowing extended geographical coverage and an in-depth analysis of the Cretan Sea dynamics during the 2-year period.
