Exploitable results – Study of the formation of very dense water in the northern Adriatic Sea and propagation into the southern Adriatic Sea.
Result descriptionDifferent aspects concerning the thermohaline variability associated with the Adriatic dense waters during and after an extreme meteorological event occurred in the Adriatic Sea in winter 2012 is analysed. It is found a suddenly decrease in salinity which interrupts a positive temperature and salinity bottom trend observed during the previous 5 years and producing a density increase of 0.02 kg.m-3.
