Mid-Term Report Summary - STRINGS&GRAVITY (Fundamental Aspects of Strings and Gravity)

Within the ERC Advanced Grant "Fundamental Aspects of Strings and Gravity" we were able to investigate new quantum properties of black holes from the ultra-high energy behavior of scattering processes among spin 2 graviton particles. In this way we could further establish a proposal that black holes are bound states of gravitons in a new quantum phase. Furthermore we discovered new kind of geometries in string theory, which go beyond Einstein's description of gravity in the context of General Relativity. We also investigated possible tests of string theory and new particles at the LHC collider and in cosmology via the study of the cosmic background radiation and the inflationary expansion of the universe.
