Mid-Term Report Summary - 3PS (3Ps Plastic-Antibodies, Plasmonics and Photovoltaic-Cells: on-site screening of cancer biomarkers made possible)
The work carried out in the context of the Starting Grant 3P’s targets the construction of a device that combines Plastic-Antibodies, Plasmonics and Photovoltaic-Cells technologies, to be applied to on-site screening of cancer biomarkers. Several scientific progresses have been achieved after 30 months of activity, including (i) the design of novel plastic antibodies for several protein cancer biomarkers; (ii) the inclusion of plasmonic particles on a photovoltaic cell to improve the efficiency of the cell; (iii) the selection of conditions that allow the set-up of a highly efficient photovoltaic cell; (iv) a successful set-up combining plastic antibody and photovoltaic cell; (e) and finally an attempt to use alternative materials as electrode support to generate a low cost device. Further studies are being conducted aiming to produce an autonomous device, operated by light and generating information about the amount to cancer biomarkers on biological fluids.
