Summary of the context and overall objectives of the project

The objectives of the project were to evaluate the market for a replacement to gamma densitometers for dense phase hydraulic conveying

Work performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the period covered by the report and main results achieved so far

The work performed consisted of a market review of the global market structure for the technology; a design study to establish parameters for product configuration; a review of relevant legislation and certification standards; and a strategy for the most effective basis for managing the company's intellectual property in this field.

Progress beyond the state of the art and expected potential impact (including the socio-economic impact and the wider societal implications of the project so far)

This project demonstrated that whilst the mining and mineral processing market is currently depressed, there is a strong interest by operators and key staff to move away from radiation-based instrumentation.
In addition, there are opportunities to improve efficiency, reduce waste and improve the overall environmental impact of mines through the use of the company's innovation.
The overall market is larger than was initially envisaged and there are clear points of entry giving the company a strategic platform to launch and develop its technology, creating jobs in the NW of England and through its supply chain in 3 other European companies.
