EcoVel Report Summary

Project ID: 673504

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - EcoVel (Commercialization of the most sustainable laundry detergent)

Reporting period: 2015-05-01 to 2016-01-31

Summary of the context and overall objectives of the project

COIN Consulting owns several patent applications which are directed to the composition and production technology of a laundry wipe. The objective of the feasibility study was to be able to prepare a detailed and validated business plan concerning marketing, financial as well as production aspects. Moreover, the steps taken in the feasibility study are necessary to prepare for market entry.

Work performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the period covered by the report and main results achieved so far

The results of the working packages supported the business concepts of COIN to launch a laundry wipe as one of the most sustainable and performant washing agents into the European market. The reports of the IP Research gave an overview over the market situation concerning brands and technologies present in the detergent market. It turned out that the technology of a laundry wipe is unique in terms of sustainability (reduction of CO2) and possess high efficiency in the washing process. The study conducted by the Institute Hohenstein proved a cleaning power comparable to existing high performance liquid detergents in the premium segment. The consumer product test (GfK) clarified the acceptance of the new application by consumers ensuring a solid and economically sound market potential for the laundry wipe. Especially the low weight, the unit dose system, the level of convenience, the sustainability and the high cleaning efficiency were among the positively mentioned aspects. The eligibility of the first generation of laundry wipe for a mass production was successfully proven by the results of the conducted serial production tests.

Progress beyond the state of the art and expected potential impact (including the socio-economic impact and the wider societal implications of the project so far)

The results from phase I in SME Instrument of Horizon 2020 confirmed our arguments concerning sustainability, level of innovation, protectability and uniqueness. The EU supported action discovered potential areas of performance and sustainability improvements by integrating capsulated bleaching agents and the use of recycled fabric material respectively.By the production and use of the laundry wipe a significant reduction of CO2 emissions can be expected.
Realizing the project, COIN will create new and secure present jobs in a considerable amount in the European Union. Additional employees are needed in the production of nonwoven fabrics, liquid preparation and production of the laundry wipe. COIN expects a fast growth with respect to turnover and headcount.
