Periodic Report Summary 1 - OHMWIT (Online Health Monitoring of Wind Turbine Generators and Power Converters)

The Marie Curie Fellow, Prof. Wen-Ping Cao, has carried out a training-through-research project on the development of cutting-edge wind turbine health monitoring technologies in liaison with Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for January to December 2015. He has now returned to Aston University to implement the acquired skills and technologies for further 12 months, supported by the FP7 under the International outgoing Fellowship scheme. The outgoing phase is successful that he has received world-class training on health monitoring and fault prediction technologies for wind turbines at MIT and Georgia Tech. The fellow has generated 5 journal papers and 7 conference papers, one grant and an award. As a result of his excellent research work, the fellow has been promoted to a Chair Professor at Aston University in Dec. 2015.
In addition to reaching his professional maturity, the fellow has taught two courses in MIT: 6.061/6.690 Introduction to Electric Power Systems, and 6.685 Electric Machines. He has also entered the Annual MIT-CHIEF Business Plan Contest in June-August 2015 and was selected as a semi-finalist.
