WATERINNEU Report Summary

Project ID: 641821
Funded under: H2020-EU.3.5.4.

Periodic Reporting for period 1 - WATERINNEU (Applying European market leadership to river basin networks and spreading of innovation on water ICT models, tools and data)

Reporting period: 2015-03-01 to 2016-02-29

Summary of the context and overall objectives of the project

WaterInnEU’s primary vision is to create a marketplace to enhance the exploitation of EU funded ICT models, tools, protocols and policy briefs related to water and to establish suitable conditions for new market opportunities based on these offerings.
During the first year, WaterInnEU have been working on building a solid base for developing this primary vision. WaterInnEU has generated an exhaustive database of ICT models, tools, protocols and policy briefs that are outcomes from previous EU funded projects. At same time, WaterInnEU has distributed complete surveys for collecting user feedback of these outcomes in order to analyse the reasons why the results of them has been correctly reused by other initiatives or still remain dormant and prioritize a selection of this results to translate them into the market. WaterInnEU started (and almost finished) the first loop of the platform for the virtual marketplace, the main tool that will bring market opportunities to the selected ICT products of the EU funded projects. Additionally, WatterInnEU has started the Interoperability Experiment. First steps in this Pilot were the definition of the collaboration with the OGC and the dissemination of WaterInnEU’s standardization objectives in order to include the external participants: European contributions (including EIP Water, CEH UK and three projects of ICT4Water cluster) and from USA (e.g. University of Texas).

Work performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the period covered by the report and main results achieved so far

The main results achieved within this first year are:
• Two completed tables with 1) relevant EU funded projects with many categorized information 2) potential projects and candidate companies able to use them.
• More than hundred stakeholders and end-users surveyed to know their priorities and to select the more interesting products and the corresponding result analysis
• An Interoperability Pilot that integrates several standard formats and web services in a flood scenario for three case studies: Scheldt, Maritsa and Severn with a panel of experts involved
• A virtual marketplace (developed and implemented at the end of the first loop), that shows a proof of concept of innovative concepts developed in the other work packages for knowledge exchange in the water management domain
• More than twenty attendance to international conferences, workshops and congress in order to spread the project and to search synergies to water field projects and institutions.

Progress beyond the state of the art and expected potential impact (including the socio-economic impact and the wider societal implications of the project so far)

In this first year, WaterInnEU has building the base (knowledge + platform + community + dissemination) for a achieving a relevant impact in the second year of the project.
