Mid-Term Report Summary - 15CBOOKTRADE (The 15th-century Book Trade: An Evidence-based Assessment and Visualization of the Distribution, Sale, and Reception of Books in the Renaissance)

The 15cBOOKTRADE Project is preparing a re-assessment of the impact of the first 50 years since the introduction of printing in the West using evidence gathered from thousands of surviving books: their contents and illustration, their distribution network, their users, and their market price. The project coordinates an extensive international network of contributing libraries and scholars, and has developed a rich suite of integrated tools for the quantitative and qualitative analysis of the data. A database tracks the movement of books in time and space, during their 500 years of existence, and a visualization suite maps the circulation of thousands of books and the formation and dispersal of library collections.
Material Evidence in Incunabula (MEI http://data.cerl.org/mei/); Text-inc (http://textinc.bodleian.ox.ac.uk/); scientific visualization suite (http://15cv.trade); a video presents this new tool to the general public (https://vimeo.com/172076861). The website of the project (http://15cbooktrade.ox.ac.uk) is rich in illustrative material.
