Mid-Term Report Summary - NAQUOP (Nanodevices for Quantum Optics)

In this project nanoscale devices to generate, manipulate and detect light at the single photon level were developed. Hybrid systems combining solid state and atomic systems were implemented to form a quantum memory.
We have coupled single quantum dots to atomic vapors to frequency lock single quantum emitters and counteract spectral diffusion. Applying tensile strain on a single quantum dot, we have demonstrated new selection rules where light holes dominate. We have operated a quantum memory compatible with the emission from quantum dots. New single photon detectors with unprecedented time efficiencies and time resolutions were achieved and quantum circuits operating at the single plasmon level were demonstrated to perform quantum optics experiments with plasmons.
