Reporting period: 2015-12-01 to 2016-11-30

Summary of the context and overall objectives of the project

The project’s focus is on fostering and facilitating interactions between citizens and healthcare companies with government-operated healthcare systems (specifically services, official data and open data related to drugs, pharmacies, biomedical, physicians, clinical trials and any consumer health product).

Industrial, economic, social problems
The project goals were derived from a comprehensive market analysis on these key topics: a) Internet and mobile apps, b) trade and consultation about drugs, c) drug legislation, d) physicians, hospitals and public healthcare institutions scenario, e) consumption habits of citizens, and f) pharmaceutical market.
The market analysis, as a core parts of the feasibility study revealed the following main problems from threefold perspective:

Social Problems – Citizens
Citizens need to educate themselves in a reliable manner.
They need to save the family budget.
They need to avoid waste.

Industrial – Pharmaceutical and healthcare market players
Need to invest in empowering relationships with patients now more tech savvy than ever.
Need to respond to the new competitive logic within the market.
Need to acquire an appropriate attitude to the “digital world” and activate innovative marketing actions

The PW vision is to become the global leading mobile pharmacy and healthcare service, managing and facilitating the interaction between citizens, physicians, public health institutions and pharma companies.

The core goals are to enable citizens to:
Better manage their relationships with medications by offering a one-stop digital environment
Breaking the information imbalance (i.e. asymmetry) between public institutions, professionals and patients on various levels; i.e. between public services, such as National medicine agencies, physicians and patients, but also pharma companies and government

The secondary goals are to allow the business players in the healthcare market, in particular government health institutions,to give better services and manage their patients by:
Using a very innovative and easy-to-use,multi-device marketing application, in order to harness the power of trends revealed via Big Data Analytics to create a more individualized approach to patient care.
Offering a forum where patients can exchange their experiences using medications.
Delivering geo-located and targeted advertising to patients about open pharmacies, available and discounted over-the-counter (OTC) medication options, and the most credible, highly-rated physicians and hospitals for specialties.

Work performed from the beginning of the project to the end of the period covered by the report and main results achieved so far

"In December 2016 Pharmawizard is confirmed as one of the most downloaded applications on the health store by Android and iOS, and as one of the online reference points for citizens to obtain information about drugs and health in a simple, fast and intuitive way.

Objective 1
The first objective described in the description of work is the improvement of the relationship and medication management by citizens through Pharmawizard and reduction in information asymmetry.
Pharmawizard’s features have allowed us to:
To acquire information about drugs (drug name, active ingredient, price, therapeutic indications, contraindications, etc.) and raise awareness of the difference between the brand name drug and medicine;
Save time related to the location of the nearest pharmacy. Our app informs users about the availability of the nearest pharmacy on your location, giving information on how to reach it.
Provide the user with a tool that allows you to browse the over the counter medications used to treat a passing symptom;
To gather information on drug interactions and its possible side effects.

Objective 2
Pharmawizard’s for Healthcare players: analytics data, spending on pharmaceuticals and generic drugs, lack of adherence to drug therapy.
Data Analytics - Pharmawizard tracks and analyzes, in anonymous mode, the behavior of consumers in the process of pre-sales, profiling users (age, gender, geographical location) in terms of most searched drugs / symptoms and retention rates to the product.
Spending on pharmaceuticals and generics - When searching for a drug through our application, will also display its equivalent drugs in order to evaluate and compare.
Non-adherence to drug therapy - Pharmawizard creates a solution to the lack of adherence to therapy was the design and implementation of the functionality Cabinet and therapy.
Forum and Chat - Our forum has today many active users every day are wondering about a variety of topics, finding more great advice from other users and specialists in various medical fields.
Find pharmacy - The function "Find Pharmacy" allows the user to identify and be guided to the nearest pharmacy / drugstore."

Progress beyond the state of the art and expected potential impact (including the socio-economic impact and the wider societal implications of the project so far)

"Through the first releases of Pharmawizard (MVP 1 and later MVP2) we were able to meet consumer needs to have reliable information, exceeding the information asymmetry problem and reducing the digital gap. The result was to raise social awareness about the use of drugs, thereby improving the knowledge both in the medical field (active ingredients, side effects, dosages, etc.) that in the economic sphere. It is therefore not to be underestimated expenditure restraint for families, who learned of the existence of these medicines, and decided to buy generic drugs. In this direction also moves the functionality "customer oriented", Cabinet and Therapy, which allow you to handle the expiration of medicines, keep track of medications in the home and receive alerts about when and how to take their medicine, etc. The effect has been to avoid an unnecessary purchase of medicinal products, which often expire without being used and which are only bought to avoid "run out" and the improvement in tack therapeutic.
For the players of the healthcare ecosystem (Pharma companies, physicians, hospital, ecc..), we have created a series of value added services, which will offer them a solution to let their users and stakeholders to face the problem of non therapeutic adherence, improvement and empowerment of the engagement of patients and the need to increase communication and interaction between people, doctors, pharmacists, pharma companies and hospital."
