Mid-Term Report Summary - HOLOBHC (Holography for realistic black holes and cosmologies)

Near-maximally spinning black holes are conjectured to exist in Nature. The physics that occurs in the vicinity of their horizon is constrained in the high spin limit by conformal invariance. This class of critical phenomena allows for analytic treatments with novel holographic methods which are developed in this ERC project. Recent theoretical understanding of the role of so-called BMS symmetries in the memory effects caused by gravitational waves also calls for novel symmetry methods in order to derive the structure of the gravitational field in the vacua and around black holes with broken BMS symmetries. Fundamental aspects of holography are also developed in this project, in relation to the fluid/gravity correspondence, higher spin field theory, conformal field theory and gravity in de Sitter space.
