Periodic Report Summary 2 - BUBBLEBOOST (Microfluidic bubbles for novel applications: acoustic laser and ultrasonically controlled swimming microrobots)

The project has advanced well on the two tracks that were initially delineated.
Acoustic laser: concerning the goal of achieving an acoustic laser with an array of micro-bubbles, we could see many interesting secondary effects linked to the vibration of bubbles in our set-up, such as the emission of a new kind of waves and the build up of strong fluid recalculations around the bubbles. The re-emission of coherent sound is the next step of this part.
Acoustic microswimmers: regarding the creation of acoustic microswimmers containing micro-bubbles, we could validate the concept with two technological approaches. First, holding micro bubbles in 3D fabricated of microcapsules as small as 10 micrometers was validated. Second, spherical repeatedly buckling under pressure were found to be also a novel path to create swimming strokes.
