Exploitable results

New technologies are needed if solid fuels, such as coal, are to continue to play a major role in energy supplies in a way that does not contribute to global warming and other environmental effects. This project focused on novel apporaches to coal combustion across a wide range of combustion technologies. A group of European research centres, industrial companies and leading universities worked together closely in a targetted project on novel approaches in advanced combustion technologies. To facilitate communication, progress and timely exchange of information and results, the work programme was organized into four areas: control of nitrogen oxide emissions; fuel characteristics; fluidized bed combustion; and pressurized pulverized fuel combustion.
