Dynamic loads in wind farms II

Exploitable results

The dynamic loads in wind farms were addressed through a combination of laboratory analysis, full-scale measurements and computer models. The measured data was analysed and used to improve predictive methods for assessing the performance of wind turbines operating in wind farms in different types of terrain. The work performed contributed significantly to improving know-how on wind farms in both simple and complex terrains. This knowledge has subsequently been embodied within products and services for the wind energy community worldwide. The project followed on from earlier work on dynamic loads in wind farms undertaken under JOULE I. This identified, amongst other factors, the need for guidelines for the design of wind farms in simple terrain; a better understanding of multiple wakes; and further investigation of the characteristics of wind farms in complex terrain.
