European database EUROWIN and implementation of a European database EUSEFIA on wind turbine failures

The European wind energy industry can derive significant benefit from ready access to high quality statistical information on the development of the European wind energy technology and the performance of it's applications. This project has led to the provision of this facility through the maintenance of the EUROWIN database which provides extensive data on existing wind turbines in Europe.

The EUROWIN database was established in 1985 under the framework of the DG XII Wind Energy Research and Development Programme. By 1992 the details of more than 6500 wind turbines, with an installed capacity of over 1050 MW were stored within the database. Its objective was to provide both the European Commission and the wind energy community with a database of significant statistical information which would accompany the development of wind energy in Europe. This subsequent project was initiated in 1992 to further the development of this database. In order to improve information exchange within the industry an international network of wind energy experts from all over Europe was also created within EUROWIN; this network was also extended during this project.
