Real-time plant diagnostic and management of dispersed PV and battery grid-connected systems in municipalities and stand-alone systems in remote areas

The life cycle costs of photovoltaic (PV) and battery grid-connected systems tend to be high, particularly due to the replacement of critical plant components for which the life span is often limited. The new models and monitoring software developed during this project allow real-time plant diagnostics and management of dispersed PV and battery grid-connected systems. This assists system performance optimisation and prevents premature component failures, thereby reducing life cycle costs.

The life cycle costs of PV plant, particularly in remote areas, are currently driven upwards by the regular premature failure of critical plant components. The objective of this project was to develop, implement and verify new models and monitoring software which provide a real-time monitoring system (RTMS) for stand-alone PV plants. RTMS systems enable the operators of PV systems to extend the lifespan of critical plant components, improve overall system efficiency and availability and reduce life-cycle costs. They also provide rapid glance analysis capability and thus reduce system maintenance time.
