Photovoltaic air conditioning

Exploitable results

Air-conditioning is an energy intensive process. There would appear to be significant potential for the development of a system using stand-alone photovoltaics as a power source for such applications. This project, which led to the development of a prototype air-conditioning device, powered by PV, represents a significant advance in this field. Air-conditioning is responsible for a large proportion of energy demand in countries of hot climate. It would appear that significant potential exists for the development of renewable energy powered systems to reduce the environmental impact of this application. The aim of this project was to design and test a solar photovoltaic air-conditioning device, powered by a PV generator. It was intended that a first prototype be developed for laboratory testing in order to qualify its operation and improve it where necessary. It was intended that two devices would subsequently be produced and installed in real conditions in Greece and Portugal.
