Value added services for maritime environment

Exploitable results

Main objectives: The VASME Project is the design and development of a voice operated VHF automatic on-demand information system for ships and vessels. It will provide real-time access to a non-limited set of Value Added Services (VAS). Some of the possible information packages provided with VAS are: administrative information, commercial information, technical information, Navigational support, - The end product of the project will be a VASME Demonstration Unit (VDU). This system will be able to operate in real-time and under the same conditions (VHF channels) of the current VTS-vessel communications. The VDU will be the common platform for the integration of the different technologies and developments. Some of the most important technologies used in this Project are: speaker-independent speech recognition, noise reduction, voice synthesis, relational data bases, real time systems with high computational charge, Advanced Graphical User Interfaces (GUI), - The major purpose of this system is to increase the flow of information exchange between vessels and traffic control towers. The system will offer serviceable information to the vessels and can obtain valuable information from the vessels, such as: identification, origin, destination and cargo type, which normally are not provided voluntarily. The system has been checked that it fulfils the objectives designed at the beginning of the project. As it was designed, it has been developed a voice-operated VHF automatic on-demand information system for ships and vessels. All the functional modules are easy to manage and the integration has been a success.
