Mathematical and experimental analysis of the influence of mechanical, thermal, fluid-flow and electromagnetic fields on the behaviour of simply- and multiply connected deformable bodies

In this research programme certain engineering problems which refer to the behavior of structures made of materials, such as, rock, concrete, metals and composite, under the influence of one or more fields of forces (thermal, mechanical, electro magnetic and fluid flow) are investigated. This investigation has been performed by applying:

1.Integral transforms
2.Complex variable theory
3.Singular integral equations theory
4.Boundary elements
5.Experimental techniques

The research of the current bibliography shows that the researchers from the FSU countries have developed rigorous analytical methodologies to attack these coupled problems but they did not develop in the same degree numerical and experimental methods. On the other hand, scientists from EU have developed to an advanced level computer aided numerical and experimental techniques. Therefore, a major result of this programme has been the coupling of these approaches through the fruitfull co-operation and exchange of knowledge among the scientists from FSU and the countries from EU, in order to attack succesfully the aforementioned engineering problems.
