Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

5 year (1994-99) database on O3, H2O, T, Wind, PV distributions at quasi global scale (0-12 km altitude), accessible through Internet network.

Summary:
Over 5 years of in situ observations sampled from 5 Airbus aircraft are available in the MOZAIC database. Atmospheric parameters available are: ozone and water vapour concentrations, pressure, temperature and wind. Measurement frequency of 1 per 4 second provides resolutions of 20m and 1km in the ascent/descent and cruise portions of the flight respectively. On average, 6 flights per day are available. The flights documented are round trip flights from Europe (Paris, Frankfurt a.M., Brussels, or Vienna) to North and South America, Africa, South and South West Asia. MOZAIC data are calibrated and validated. (M-F)
Also available are data averaged over boxes of 150m altitude and 1 minute time. Meteorological data are calculated from weather analyses. For the characterization of measurements made during ascent or descent, backward trajectories of air parcels at 6 standard pressure levels and for a set of 6 airports visited by the MOZAIC aircraft are available once per day. (M-F).
Geostationary satellite images are available daily over the America/Atlantic/Africa/Europe domain. (M-F) The database describes the upper tropospheric chemistry, which will allow more confident predictions of future climatic changes.
The MOZAIC website was transferred to the server of Laboratoire d'Aerologie (now http://www.aero.obsmip.fr/mozaic/).
