Complementary study of inclusive pion double charge exchange at high energy. Theory and experiment

Exploitable results

High energy (around 1 GeV) inclusive pion double charge exchange (DCX) for studying the reaction mechanisms, which are not well known in this range of energies, well above the delta resonance, will be investigated. The following will be done: measure for the first time double differential cross sections for inclusive DCX of negative pions on light nucleiat p=0.7-1.3 GeV/c at 0-10 degrees in laboratory frame in the region of outgoing pion momentum where two pion production is kinematically forbidden; and toperform theoretical calculations for two sequential single charge exchange mechanism of DCX and other alternative mechanisms and compare them with experimental results. The data have already been taken on the pion beam of the ITEP10GeV accelerator in Moscow and the above-mentioned model has been developed in the University of Valencia. The experimental data processing and their analysis within the framework of the modes presents an important step in the full understanding of DCX reaction mechanisms and pion behaviour in dense nuclear matter.
