Country: Italy

Electronic patient record system: intelligent telematic services for women care by a European network; WOMAN

This is a web-oriented desktop system to help clinicians in their daily work. The system is made of different modules:
- The Electronic Patient Record application, an intranet system to follow up the patient and store menopause information with a structured protocol (thus allowing a connection with other departments and laboratories, such as Radiology, etc.).
- The Statistic Tool to perform statistics on local data and anonymous statistics on distributed databases around the WOMAN Network.
- The Extranet Tool, to extract and to send a single patient data in a anonymous and protected way (XML) to a colleague for a second opinion.
- The Tele-Consulting Tool to use videoconference among Centres and to discuss specific patient cases.

An innovative architecture has been adopted to manage distributed databases in a secure way with the support of the XML language.

The Electronic Patient Record is a Web application developed by using JAVA-based technologies. The solution implemented in WOMAN has been selected by the EMAS (the European Menopause and Andropause Society) as the standard Electronic Patient Record in the post-menopause field, thus representing de facto the state-of-the-art at European level in the specific field.
