Information web services: intelligent telematic services for women care by a European network; WOMAN

The web reference site is registered as http://www.womanlab.com. This is a multilingual web site where women and health-professionals can find useful information regarding menopause. The site distinguishes between women and the health-professional users to offer focused information with the appropriate terminology. Starting from the global web site, users can access the local web sites, according to the place they live or the interests they have, and also use on-line interactive services offered by local Clinics such as on-line consulting or booking of exams and visits.

In particular, the on-line consulting feature allows women and health-professionals in a structured and easy way (i.e. by using a guided procedure - Wizard) to fill in a multi-form and ask clinicians questions for a second opinion or for remote consulting. The structured form is useful for clinicians to have useful information and to easily read the sent data. At registration time, an identification code is associated with the request of information to let the clinician easily identify the patient in case of her visit at the Clinic and to protect privacy. A privacy level has been adopted to make users give their explicit consent to send their data.

The Information Web services offered to women and clinicians are implemented as a set of software modules, developed by using Internet, JAVA-based technologies. The services represent, in terms of contents and features offered to the users, the current state-of-the-art in the field of post menopause at a European level. A competitor of the WOMAN solution has been identified in US: the Obgyn network (www.Obgyn.net). Currently, possible exploitation routes are being explored with the Obgyn management and decision makers, in order to implement joint exploitation strategies in Europe.
