Management, Exchange and Representation of Component Information

Deliverables

R&L completely programmed the project website in PHP script language. The result is a multi-lingual, dynamic website containing pertinent project information and links, news and press releases. It is built on a UNIX platform and is capable of supporting various database formats such as Postgres SQL, MYSQL, Oracle etc.
The MERCI DB is a database system specialised for the management of product data. The product data is organised according to one or several classifications (dictionaries). The MERCI DB allows the capture, manipulation, and exchange of product and dictionary data via the Internet. The basis of the MERCI DB is the PLIB standard (ISO13584) which is related to the STEP series of standards (ISO 10303). In addition, the MERCI DB supports also further standards, for example the RosettaNet PIP2A9, and it provides various import and export mechanisms and formats. To support the handling of multiple dictionaries that often is necessary for manufacturers to support the company specific dictionaries of their customers, the MERCI DB incorporates mechanisms for dictionary mapping. These mechanisms allow viewing data in the database according to the classification and the definitions that are familiar to the customers - regardless of how the data is actually stored and organised - provided that a mapping has been defined between the manufacturer's dictionary and the customer's dictionary. These mechanisms have also been applied successfully for the integration of differently organised databases within the manufacture's company. The MERCI DB can be linked easily with other tools and software products. For example, all PLIB tools that are offered (partly for free) on the PLIB Web site can be easily linked to the MERCI DB, and the connection with Content Management functionality is under development. This will allow the owner of the database to provide product information in all formats and media required by his customers.
This product is part of EXPRESS Data Manager™ and is targeting the implementation of reference data and product libraries. It is built on a database environment with client/server and web architecture. It supports the following applicable standards: - ISO 13584 Parts Library - ISO 15926 Life Cycle Integration - ISO PAS 12006-3 Building and Construction Taxonomies This product enables storing of library data in a database management system with tools and services for import/export, on-line transactions, query and updates, quality checking, etc. This result is a shrink-wrapped product.
This toolbox allows to capture, to store, to browse and to exchange over the Internet product /property dictionaries and catalogues of industrial components described according to the PLIB Standard (ISO 13584). It consists of three major tools: - PLIB API is a software module associated with a JAVA API allowing to store PLIB data, to read and write ISO 10303-21 files containing PLIB data, to check integrity constraints on these data; - PLIB Editor is a Java-based application allowing to describe dictionaries and catalogues and to record their content as PLIB data within PLIB API; - PLIB Browser is a tool allowing to generate automatically a human readable view of PLIB data as active electronic catalogues; such catalogues may then be posted on the Internet as Web site, or exchanged using either the Internet or CD. Thus, these three tools allow the automatic production of Web sites and active electronic catalogues on industrial components. Possible applications: - Manufacturing companies, for capturing and publishing their component catalogues; - Industry consortiums and standardization committees, for developing standard product/property dictionaries for one particular industry domain; - Web publishers, for automating electronic catalogue generation; - R&D projects, to prototype full electronic information flow over a supply chain. Main innovative features: - The whole information content of catalogues is represented as data: documents are generated from data, an API provide for accessing data; - Capability to exchange data as ISO 10303-21 file ("STEP files"); - Automatic generation of web-oriented active catalogues; - Allow to reference standards product/property dictionaries; - Reduce cost and improve quality of information exchange.
