Community Research and Development Information Service - CORDIS

HarsBook consists of a guide for experts in the field of thermal safety of chemical processes, and is based on the accumulated and shared experience of the partners. It describes the best methods currently available for predicting, assessing and minimizing exothermic reaction hazards. It is structured in a way that covers all the steps related to a chemical process, from the research of information to the storage of unstable substances. It is a reference source that can be used in relation to other activities of HarsNet.

HarsBook is available on the web page of HarsNet, but it can also be purchased in a printed version published by Dechema e.V. Initially, the name of this subtask was HarsGuide, and its purpose was to summarize some of the stages in assessing exothermic reaction hazards and to describe the types of equipment that are commercially available in this context. The final document prepared has fully surpassed the initial prospect of this subtask. In fact, even though the original idea was to keep it as an internal working document, it was decided to make it public, given that it could be of potential interest for SMEs. Chapters included in HarsBook are:
- Introduction
- Desktop screening
- Testing Methods
- Thermal screening
- Reaction Calorimetry
- Adiabatic Calorimetry
- Inherent safety
- Safe Storage of unstable compounds
- Additional topics
- Glossary
