Innovation in european textile printing using uv-curable pigment inks and online-fixation in inkjet printing (HIGHTEX-INNOPRINT)

Deliverables

The knowledge on ink formulation using pigment dispersions, binders and photoinitiators is a main result. Moreover the developed filtration technique for purification of inkjet inks is a key technology. The knowledge and recipes generated within this project are of significance for manufacturing UV-curable pigment inks for use in textile applications, printing on paper, leather. Such inks provide highest fastness properties and soft hand.
Parameters referring to lamp spectrum and output, geometry of reflector and UV dose were evaluated and fixed. The setup of parameters was also performed on the basis of curing tests in laboratory, which provided the input for manufacturing of the curing unit. An online-curing unit was manufactured as an open system for incorporation of further radiators if necessary. This also includes the use of inert gas as well as high flexibility referring to the use of focused or not focused UV-light radiators (exchangeable). The UV-scanning device was adopted to customers demands. A prototype was designed and manufactured.
The knowledge on highly efficient UV-curable binders and the dispersion and formulation technique for inks for use in inkjet printing and textile applications is a main result. The knowledge and chemical compounds generated within this project are of significance for inkjet applications in a wide field. The developed and tested binders provide high fastness properties on textiles without harsh fabric handle. Results will be used for development of a pallet of inkjet inks.
The knowledge on highly efficient dispersants and the dispersion technique for pigment inks for use in inkjet printing is a main result. The knowledge and recipes generated within this project are of significance for dispersion of further pigments. Knowledge referring to milling procedure of pigments was generated which is the basis for any ink formulation for inkjet inks. Results will be used for development of a pallet of inkjet inks.
Lamberti has the know-how of producing stable water-based emulsions of photoinitiators. Reasonable photoinitiators were developed which resulted stable both in stress conditions and in normal storage. These emulsions cover the whole range of UV-Vis emissions of the Hg lamp used for curing UV ink formulations and cover also the transmittance window of the pigments commonly used for quadrichromy. The supplied water-based emulsions contain 30% of photoinitiators and were easily incorporable into water-based acrylic formulations. The formulations demonstrate a good stability. The knowledge on photoinitiators for use in inkjet printing is a main result. The knowledge and recipes generated within this project are of significance for manufacturing UV-curable pigment inks for use in textile applications.
