Minerva - a java-based framework supporting active documents

The Minerva framework serves as test bed for the development and evaluation of future active document systems. To be as flexible as possible, Minerva's technology is based on component-oriented principles, so arbitrary data types may be embedded into documents. This important feature is especially useful in case of documents, which may be used over long periods of time. The flexible technology is able to integrate new components even if this means to overcome slight changes in the requirements. Besides this, Minerva offers sophisticated mechanisms, which aid the developer in realising non-linear navigation, annotation management or hot update capabilities to name just a few. In a nutshell, Minerva can serve as base for next generation active document systems.
