MIPs CPU based hardware prototyping and deployment platform and software toolset for the royalty free, NetBSD embedded operating system allows us to increase relative efficiency and effectiveness of embedded systems development. A new hardware platform provides a common environment that can be widely deployed and serviced. The MIP's CPU development platform will focus specifically on supporting the complex hardware environment not the least of which is dealing with memory-constrained devices. The system is particularly suited for embedded medical device development, prototyping and testing for network oriented and portable applications where full control of audiovisual feedback and multiple of inputs are necessary.

The peripheral architecture includes modularised display and keyboard interfaces, a V34 hardware modem, 10BaseT Ethernet interface, BluetoothTM module interface and RS232 serial interface.

NetBSD provides a small footprint high performance and highly portable OS platform. Code that runs under the Linux core will run, unmodified, under NetBSD. We can deliver this platform to customers, with all the software development tools and support that one could expect from a platform provider.
