Built and operated a dedicated international IPv6 network, and used this network to validate that the demands for the continuous growth of the global Internet can be met with the new IPv6 technology

6NET was one of Europe's largest Internet research projects, and deployed and tested IPv6 under realistic conditions. The 42 project partners represented a rich combination of research and industrial organizations. The consortium provided a native IPv6 network on an international scale, throughout Europe, and to North America and the Asia-Pacific region, for test and demonstration purposes. The 6NET infrastructure connected more countries at a higher capacity than any other native IPv6 network deployed to date; spanning 13 European countries, with links of up to 2.5Gbit/s. The resulting experience of deployment, operation and management was used to migrate IPv6 into the GÉANT production network for the European research community.
