Tools for the genetic improvement of sea bass. Construction and preliminary application of a medium density linkage and synteny map

Deliverables

A Bacterial Artifical Chromosome (BAC) library consisting of 69,00 clones (average size 164 kb; 13 x genome coverage) has been prepared and published (Whitaker, McAndrew and Taggart (2006) Animal genetics 37: 526). It is available as library, individual clones and macroarrays.
A linkage map of 174 microsatellite markers grouped in 25 linkage groups has been published (Genetics 170: 1821-6 (2005)). It is publicly available and serves as a starting point for marker assisted selection, functional genomics and conservation genetics. In the mid-term users will be the aquaculture industry, veterinary sciences and government. Benefits for biomedicine are possible.
