Final Activity Report Summary - TRANSISTOR (Trans-cis elements regulating key switches in plant development)

The main objective of the TRANSISTOR project was to train young scientists in a multidisciplinary research environment in which those working in the laboratory (wet science) had a direct contact with fellows from bioinformatics and statistics research groups. The fellows have analysed regulatory pathways that control flower development using high-technology approaches. The main emphasis was to identify by genetic and molecular experiments target genes of key regulatory factors. Groups have analysed target genes of factors controlling the timing of flowering, the development of floral organs and ovules.

The interactions with the bioinformatics and statistics groups have resulted in a successful collaboration to analyse the obtained datasets. New programs and statistical tools have been developed including a plant transcription factor analysis database which is exploited by BIOBASE (please see online), a commercial partner in this project. Furthermore, specific attention has been paid to training in presentation and writing skills which made the TRANSISTOR project a complete and successful training program.
