NENAMAT Informe resumido

Project ID: 510363
Financiado con arreglo a: FP6-NMP
País: Slovakia

Final Report Summary - NENAMAT (Network for nanostructured materials of ACC)

The main objective of the NENAMAT project was to mobilise human and material resources in the field of nano-structured materials in associate candidate countries (ACCs), to consolidate, strengthen, and enhance the dispersed research/technological potential in this field of research, to promote and exploit results of the Fifth and sixth Framework Programmes (FP5 and FP6) and to improve the knowledge based application oriented nanoscience and technology in Europe.

The further objective was to improve significantly the communication and collaboration between the centres working in this area of research in individual ACCs, between the centres in ACCs, Member State countries, Russian new independent states (NISs) and SEEC which would contribute to the building and strengthening of the European Research Area (ERA). To fulfil this objective an effective system for information exchange and system for training/mobility would be established.

An important objective was to disseminate scientific information as well as the results of research and development and to create a common platform for coordinate research, education, and training activities in ACCs in the field of nano-structured materials and nanoscience/technology.

A very important objective was to integrate the ACC activities to ERA and contribute to the development of radical breakthrough production technologies leading to the mass production of nanopowders and nanocomponents of high quality or self-controlled manufacturing operations.

The specific objectives of the NENAMAT were:
- sharing and developing research infrastructure of the network partners
- monitoring common interest and generating interdisciplinary research projects;
- planning the research activities to avoid duplicate research;
- to improve the position of female in research;
- to improve the protection of intellectual knowledge;
- to improve education in the nanoscience/technology and related fields;
- to help in creation of 'knowledge communities' in nanotechnologies;
- to elaborate technological roadmaps in nanosciences and nanotechnologies;
- to integrate education and skills development with the research activities.

The realised work during the project was connected with the following activities/ work packages (WPs):

WP1: national 'mobilisation workshops'
The goal was to mobilise the human and material resources in the field of nanomaterials and technology in ACCs; to contact key partners and their research and technological development (RTD) potential & capabilities, to discuss advanced initiatives, methods, techniques and new strategies.

WP2: information & communication tools
The goal was the Integration of NENAMAT activities through NENAMAT internet, developing a promotion and dissemination tool to support the NENAMAT activities.

WP3: sharing and development of the infrastructure
The goals were
- to prepare a catalogue of the research infrastructure, equipment, methods available at each Institute in the ACCs;
- to prepare a system of access to the NENAMAT infrastructure.

WP4: expert council & working groups
The goal was to create an expert council and Working Groups from the leading international experts of ACCs with the aim to transfer the results of the supporting activities into the scientific/research/application field in different areas of nanoscience and nanotechnology; to prepare studies, analysis concerning the state of the art of research and development in individual areas of nanoscience & nanotechnology; to define the scientific programme of summer schools, workshops and conference, to initiate new cooperations, joint projects, introduction of new concepts, methods/techniques.

WP5: training and mobility of young researchers
The goal was to prepare a plan for the training and mobility of young researchers under 35 years and to organise summer schools and exchange of researchers.

WP6: workshop and conference
The goal was to organise workshops and an international conference on nanomaterials with invited scientists from the Member States.

The activities of the Czech core group led to the establishment of two teams that operate independently of the NENAMAT project (although member of the project core group participate in them) to the benefit of the development of nanosciences, nanomaterials and nanotechnologies in the CR, the formation of the Czech nano-team should be emphasised, which embraces mainly physics-oriented workplaces (at universities and in the 'Academy of sciences'). The activities of this group focus primarily on the theoretical aspects of the nano-area. The group is very active, above all in organising workshops and summer schools of high-level standing.

The other team has come into being associated to the 'Czech society for new materials and technologies' (CSNMT) and is rather oriented towards cooperating with SMEs. The activities of the CSNMT nano-section in particular have become intermingled with the activities of the Czech core group to such a degree that it resulted in the above-mentioned financial and other support of the conference held within the WP6 activities.
