Final Report Summary - INCOME (Evaluation and improvement of integrated livestock disease control measures through distribution of molecular diagnostic tools, evaluation of disease situation in Asia)

The ultimate aim of the INCOME project was to establish a platform on food safety by promoting livestock health. For this purpose it set the following goals:
- promoting the scientific cooperation between Europe and Asia by focusing on less well-known areas including central, east and south-west Asia and thus contributing to the development of the international dimension of the European Research Area (ERA);
- developing and promoting multi-partner cooperation approaches for animal diseases involving scientific communities, universities, public authorities, companies and consumer organisations;
- creating and promoting strategies for effective networking at national, regional and international level

The project activities included exchange of staff, workshops including technical workshops and distribution of molecular diagnostic and epidemiological tools. The results achieved were the following:
- introduction, harmonisation and distribution of diagnostic tools for pathogen detection and differentiation;
- training and capacity building through courses/technical workshops and seminars;
- dissemination of knowledge through workshops and publications to the scientific community and decision-makers in veterinary authorities;
- data analysis and evaluation of epidemiological data;
- networking at national, regional and international level;
- research priority setting for the Sixth and Seventh Framework Programmes (FP6 and FP7) which resulted in the funding of two projects.
