Final Report Summary - GUTIMPACT (Innovations and impact of gut health foods: a virtual technology platform)

The ultimate aim of the GUTIMPACT project was to identify and work towards bridging the knowledge gaps associated with functional foods. It specifically aimed to address the basic mechanisms by which functional microbes and ingredients affect human gut health in order to allow for their rational development, targeted improvement and safe production. The consortium intended to provide means of bridging these gaps by constructing a virtual technology road map to facilitate communication between the public and private sectors and consumers.

The project's main objectives were the following:
- to create a framework to strengthen the dialogue and knowledge sharing between industry and scientists (and other stakeholders);
- knowledge sharing amongst industry, Small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), patient groups, consumers and consumer organisations;
- implementation of gut health foods strategy plan amongst leading scientists and science organisations from different Member States, industries and European Union representatives;
- effective management and coordination of the Specific Support Action (SSA) GUTIMPACT for successful administration, finances and reporting
