Final Activity Report Summary - NANOSTIM (Stimuli sensitive polymers for nano- and microdevices)

The project combined training of experienced researchers and transfer of knowledge based upon the research program aimed at the synthesis, investigations of properties and application of micro- and nano-structured materials based upon stimuli sensitive polymers. The interdisciplinary research program was carried out under individual tasks.

The synthetic polymer chemistry task concerned the modern methods of living/controlled polymerisation of heterocyclic and vinyl monomers leading to polymers exhibiting stimuli sensitive behaviour. The polymers with optimised properties e.g. reaction toward stimuli, morphology, solution behaviour were obtained. The characterisation task (micellisation and aggregation) involved the investigation of polymer properties in solution and the organisation using modern analytical techniques. The stabilisation of nano- and micro-structures was also performed. Nano-, micro- and macro-gels were obtained and their behaviour under environmental stimuli were studied.

Strong cooperation between multidisciplinary teams enabled a real progress in the field of knowledge. Direct involvement of fellows to the research program and simultaneously the organisation of series of lectures, workshops and training courses ensured the transfer of knowledge and expertise. As a project results, 14 papers have been published and 2 papers were submitted.
