Coherent matter-wave interferometry

Final Activity Report Summary - MATTERWAVES (Coherent Matter-Wave Interferometry)

One of the most exciting frontiers of Atomic Physics is the exploration and exploitation of the unprecedented coherence and brightness of the matter-waves of Bose-Einstein Condensates. The aim of this project was to develop a new type of trapping and guiding potential based on Time-Averaged Adiabatic Potentials (TAAP) as well as setting up the first cold-atom laboratory in South-Eastern Europe. We have succeeded in doing so: We have in operation an ultra-reliable BEC machine, which we successfully used to trap atoms in a dumbbell shaped TAAP trap. We are now well on the way to achieve ring-shaped coherent matter-wave guides.
