Advanced technology for coating application

Most functional properties of component parts in hardware rely heavily on the quality of the coatings applied on them. A newly developed Russian technology resulted in improving the efficiency and functional properties of surfaces furnished with coatings. Apart from metallurgy, the new techniques and equipment can be applied in many other fields, including power production, mining, machinery and equipment manufacture, and transport industries.

Overlaid on surfaces of materials, coatings constitute protective shields mostly against wear and corrosion. Moreover, coatings can also improve the efficiency of materials, such as surface strength and other physical, chemical and mechanical properties. The performance of a component or equipment could be substantially improved depending on the selection of the most suitable coatings for application on its surface.

Apart from the proper coating selection, the application techniques used seriously affect the effectiveness and efficiency of the coatings. Focusing on this, the proposed technology is capable of successfully applying the powder coatings of significant thickness (up to 15mm) in a vacuum environment. Without any losses of surfaced powder, this technology leads to materials that feature improved wear, corrosion, thermal shock resistance, as well as surface strength.

In comparison to other conventional methods used, the new technology is more effective in improving the efficiency and functional properties of coatings. The integrated technique and equipment is particularly suitable for the fused coatings, which are thick coatings containing a mixture of materials. Thereby, the coating material is more purified and features a finer grain structure, while there are fewer distortions and warping effects on the component surface.

The offered hard-faced coating technology can find many applications in industrial equipment and components. It could be employed for valves, turbine blades, tuyere, moulds, rolls, face seals, crank-shafts, pistons, drilling tools and many others. The developers are looking for licence agreement.
