The scent of a game

An innovative digital scent technology for multimedia has been developed by an Israeli SME that could very well give the game industry new dimensions.
The scent of a game
The company, consisting of experts from the fields of software, hardware, chemistry, electro-mechanics and aerodynamics has developed a digital scent generator (DSG). The scent generator acts as an aroma printer delivering scent in real-time synchronisation with the company proprietary software that is built into the video game.

The DSG system can track the Player Characters in real time as they travel through the game's virtual environment. By interpreting the game's environment and action into a suitable aroma, the software activates the peripheral DSG. Hence, the computations are transformed into the specific scent mix that creates the desired aroma, at the desired intensity and for the desired length of time. Thus it makes the game a more exciting experience.

In addition to enhancing the game experience, the system's innovative design and advanced components enable both low cost and quick market penetration. Furthermore, the user-friendly SDK (software development kit) can help developers easily integrate the olfactory experience into new as well as existing games. Besides replicating scents via the use of sub-micron particles, the system can also help to prevent imprinting, making it suitable for a variety of multimedia applications. Among these are video games, interactive television, DVDs and the Internet.
