Transnational research for career development

Thanks to the support of the EU, a postdoctoral fellowship programme established by ETH Zurich was able to offer incoming fellowships for high-potential postdoctoral researchers on a competitive basis.
Transnational research for career development
Hosted by ETH Zurich, a world-leading university for technology and the natural sciences, the project ETHFELLOWS (ETH Zurich Postdoctoral Fellowship Program) targeted high-potential individuals looking to advance their professional development in their chosen academic areas. The programme offered an ETH employment contract with various benefits in terms of remuneration and career development activities.

The programme achieved all its set tasks, which included the timely publication of the first four calls covering the reporting period from 1 March 2011 to 28 February 2013, for which 161 applications were received. A total of 54 ETH Zurich Postdoctoral Fellowships were also endorsed, 11 of which were for women. Represented research areas covered life sciences, physics, environment, engineering, chemistry, mathematics and architecture.

Through the ETH Zurich Postdoctoral Fellowship Program, promising researchers had the opportunity to acquire new skills and competences, thus boosting their academic career. EU project support will help keep attracting transnational fellowships at a noticeably higher level. As a result, it will significantly boost the mobility of high-potential researchers coming to Switzerland from EU Member States, Associated Countries and third countries.
