Training tools and solutions to boost innovation for security organisations
Within security organisations – police forces, fire departments and rescue services – there is a need for continuous improvement. Innovation is required to consider how resources can best be used and how delivery can be improved.

To help these organisations, the EU-funded INSEC (Increase innovation and research within security organisations) project set out to provide new innovative approaches and tools to key players in European security.

Project partners developed a new innovation model and solutions for its implementation based on the needs of security organisations identified during several creativity sessions. The model enables various stakeholders to manage their innovation expectations and strategies.

The INSEC team developed an internal and external open innovation platform to promote networking between public and private security organisations, including small and medium-sized enterprises. To assist security organisations in improving their innovation capacity, a technology audit tool, a road mapping tool, and tools for technology exploitation and European funding were also designed. The platform incorporates both the practical tools and the innovation model.

Six e-learning training modules were designed and six training sessions were held to provide relevant stakeholders with knowledge and practical skills in innovation management and to improve innovative collaboration practices. The modules are accessible via the open platform. Over 200 participants benefited from the sessions, which covered topics such as innovation and intellectual property rights strategies, project management and Horizon 2020.

INSEC outcomes will help European security stakeholders to collaborate better, to find solutions to their requirements and to access a broad range of free training tools.
