EU Science Prizes
Rewarding excellence in science
Few should question the link between scientific research and improvements in the fabric of society. But scientific research needs - even deserves - more public recognition and visibility than it is currently receiving. The EU's Science Prize programme tackles this problem head-on by reinforcing excellence in science.
The Science Prizes or 'Distinctions' reward European researchers who have achieved outstanding scientific or technological results, especially those demonstrating teamwork and/or involved in collaborative research. Special emphasis is placed on science students and scientists to motivate young people to strive harder to secure Europe's scientific and technological future. Through appropriate recognition and rewards, the sciences should then be seen as a stable and attractive career path for young people - with the benefits accruing to society as a whole.
