Mission: The activities organised under generic of "Be a science teacher for a week!" answer to the need of fight against the lack of interest for knowledge throughout science and technology, which is a characteristic of present Romanian education and society.
Purposes:
- making the university and highschool students, teachers and parents sensitive about the importance of science and technology in our personal life and present society;
- stimulation of students interest for study of science and technology;
- information of teachers, students and parents about actual results in the field of science and technology;
- optimise the science teaching-learning process;
- develop the students creativity.
Objective:
- to involve high school and university students in the (didactical) simple equipment improvisation;
- to elaborate some materials for popularisation of scientific knowledge;
- to make teachers, university and high school students conscious of possibility to create some simple equipments with ordinary and recyclable materials;
- to instruct science teachers in conception and integration in educational practice of simple equipments.
Activities: The main purpose of the activities is to improvise simple equipments. For this purpose there are used ordinary and recyclable materials. There are enclosed explanations and documentations for the equipments construction. The originality of these activities is the way of organisation: using the "cascade" and "courier" methods. That means, at the beginning, the university students and a part of organising institutions students (named here organisers) will make a set of simple equipments. They will be instructed to guide the making of equipments, to present the necessary explanations and additional popularisation materials available. In the first day of science week the organisers will realise, in their classes, 3-4 simple equipments construction activities. Next days some selected students, together with a part of organisers, will remake these activities in other classes. The other organisers will go at different schools and will repeat the first day activities. The last day of science week is dedicate to the exhibitions where the best achievements will receive prizes. Later the description of these achievements will be a part of a volume.
The equipments will be achieved can be divided in three categories:
- simple equipements with instruments and appliance role: balances, electroscopes, compasses, kaleidoscopes, periscopes, etc.
- simple equipments that simulate the running of some instruments, real appliances: reaction propulsion vehicles, electrical circuits with a lemon, etc.
- toys: weather cock, rocking chair, etc.
The informative materials will be:
- promotion materials of "European Science and Technology Week" and "Be a science teacher for a week!" events;
- promotion materials of some recently results in the field of science and technology: web sites, notes, posters, etc.
- support materials for realised achievements.
