Description
Objective:
The ageing of the world's population is an issue of increasing concern to policymakers in the EU. A report produced by the EC in 1996 indicated that health care costs would multiply over the next 30 years solely as a result of population ageing. Ageing is, therefore, an important challenge for European governments seeking to promote economic growth, create jobs and develop sustainable socialwelfare systems. At present our knowledge regarding the impact of population ageing on the costs of health care and long-term care is limited and the issue is subject to conflicting arguments. There is no one source of information on this issue, nor is there any systematic review of the literature in this area. The project aims to provide European policy makers with this necessary and relevant information, so that they will be better equipped to address the implications of ageing in the EU.
