Periodic Report Summary - PETRUS II (Towards an European training market and professional qualification in Geological Disposal)

Quality validation date:2012-10-31

Abstract
Producing human resources that can address diverse issues related to the geological disposal of radioactive waste requires a unified effort at European level for the next several decades. The objective of the PETRUS II project is to ensure the continuation, renewal and improvement of the professional skills by filling the gap between growing demand for structured E&T in geological disposal and the offering that is presently fairly limited. This goal will be achieved through close collaboration between key stakeholders (i.e. end users, training providers and academia) committed to develop suitable common frameworks for the implementation and delivery of sustainable education and training (E&T) programmes accredited at the European level and mutually recognised.

The objectives of the project for the first period have been:
The assessment of the existing pedagogic materials, academic courses and training programmes available within the consortium.
Evaluation of materials needed to launch sustainable Education and Training programmes in the field of geological disposal of the radioactive waste.
Establishment of typical professional profiles and related competencies in accordance with the end-users short term and long term development objectives.
Setting-up the framework for the PETRUS professional development programme
First test of the PETRUS common academic courses for Master students and integration of these courses to the regular universities' curriculum.
Development of the project Web site and database.
