Call for proposals for Knowledge-Based Bio-Economy (KBBE)

Date:2012-07-20

The European Commission has published the Knowledge-Based Bio-Economy (KBBE) call for proposals.

The KBBE addresses specific challenges such as food quality, animal diseases and welfare, sustainability of bio-resources and environment-friendly agricultural, aquaculture and fishery production. The KBBE is expected to play an important role in EU growth, especially in a global economy where knowledge is the best way to increase productivity and competitiveness while improving our quality of life, protecting our environment and preserving our social model. This sector is estimated to be worth more than EUR 1.5 trillion per year.

The single-stage call for proposals is broken down into three activities and 45 topics. It focuses on:

- Sustainable production and management of biological resources from land, forest and aquatic environments
- Fork to farm: food (including sea-food), health and well being
- Life science, biotechnology and biochemistry for sustainable non-food products and processes.
