Aerogels - the world's lightest solids: International project meeting of the EU project NanoHybrids
The EU research project NanoHybrids, uniting well-known partners from European research and industry, can report its first successes: New methods have been developed for manufacturing organic and hybrid aerogels and they have already been used to produce initial small quantities of organic aerogels. Industry and research partners have cooperated closely to achieve this. Thus significant milestones have already been achieved just 18 months into the EU project.

New plant for producing aerogels built in TUHH’s technology centre
A new plant for producing aerogels – highly porous nanoparticles – has been built in the technology centre at Hamburg University of Technology (TUHH). The plant, jointly financed by the EU research project “NanoHybrids” and by industry, enables prototype aerogels to be produced for direct industrial tests for the first time.The skill and experience of TUHH’s technical staff made it possible to build the plant on site.
