Bioeconomy Innovations: Tough Starting Up
A German blog on innovations management estimates that between 175 and 3,000 ideas are needed to bring just one product or service to the market. Venture capitalists assume that only one out of ten investments pays, says expert Heinrich Cuypers. It seems that the benchmarks for creating a business are extremely tough. But they are not insurmountable.

Calls for Proposals: ‘Strategic projects with major cofunding’ and ‘Improved treatment and clinical management of poverty-related diseases’
The Strategic projects with major cofunding call will cofund strategically important, large-scale research projects with the potential to achieve rapid advances in the field of PRDs and to contribute to the objectives of EDCTP2. The call for Improved treatment and clinical management of PRDs will fund projects that aim to evaluate new or significantly improved drugs or drug regimens in humans or to optimise the efficacy and use of existing therapeutics for any of the PRDs targeted in this call.

Reaching global warming targets under ice-free Arctic summers requires zero emissions by 2045
Ice-albedo feedback as a result of sea-ice melting, notably in the Arctic, is known to reinforce global warming. What is less known, however, is the impact of a no-summer ice scenario on the world’s ambition to maintain global warming below 2°C by 2100. A study conducted under the TRANSRISK project paints a rather dark picture, highlighting the need to better understand the impact of rapid climate change in the region.
