SCOPE OF THE SMT PROGRAMME (1994 - 1998)
||The Standards, Measurements and Testing (SMT) programme was one of the specific programmes that made up the Fourth Framework Programme (1994-1998) for Research and Technological Development (RTD). It aimed, through RTD in the field of measurements and testing, to improve the competitiveness of European industry, to support the implementation of other Community policies and to meet the needs of society. It had a total budget of more than 173 MECU.
Under the SMT programme, more than 360 projects were financed through shared-cost actions (RTD and co-operative research, CRAFT) and co-ordination activities (thematic networks and concerted actions). The projects span a wide variety of areas ranging from measurements for quality European products to research related to written standards and technical support to trade to research related to health and safety, protection of the cultural heritage, environmental monitoring and the justice system.
Detailed information on final results and achievements for all projects carried out under the SMT programme, as well as for its predecessor, the Measurements and Testing Programme (1992-1994), is accessible via the Internet at:
