Spain in EU R&D

Spain has been actively involved in the construction of the European Research Area (ERA). In October 2007, the Ministry of Science and Innovation organised a seminar in Madrid to debate the Spanish proposals for the ERA Green Paper, subsequently given form in a document summarising this country’s contribution to the Green Paper.

The Spanish Government is energetically promoting the debate on initiatives to meet the ERA’s ambitious objectives. Among the main aims of policy on Science and Technology in Innovation, the Ministry of Science and Innovation is promoting reforms which will allow Spain to confront the challenges and opportunities of the future European Research and Innovation Area (ERIA).

Moreover, to encourage participation in Framework Programmes in research, technological development and innovation, Spain has initiated the Euroingenio programme with the aim of significantly increasing its involvement.

At present, FP7 is managed by the Deputy Directorate-General of European Programmes in the Directorate-General for International Cooperation and Institutional Relations. The European Office in that Directorate-General and the Centre for the Development of Industrial Technology (CDTI) also in the Ministry of Science and Innovation provide support structures for participation in the FP7.
